About Us

Aazadi began as an idea in Mumbai and developed further when Kriti and Rees later moved to Hamburg, where Kriti worked with Steffi. When Kriti and Steffi were on a shoot in Bangalore, she shared the idea, and a late‑night call back to Rees brought the three of us together to start this journey - once he realised they weren’t joking.

Rees Dale is a Welsh filmmaker living in Germany with two decades of experience in editing and visual effects, working across Europe and India. Aazadi has grown from his years living and working in India, a deep involvement in Judo and a personal family history of visual impairment. In 2025, he wrote, directed and edited the ARD/NDR film, The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet. He continues to develop new documentary and fiction projects.

Kriti Dale is a filmmaker from northern India, now based in Germany. After early experiences in front of the camera, she fought her way into cinematography, developing a visual approach grounded in observation, character, and the emotional texture of everyday life. She continues to refine her craft at the Deutsche Film‑ und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB), with recent work including serving as Cinematographer on the ARD/NDR documentary The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet, directing and writing for Arte, and shooting numerous short films. With Aazadi, she brings a deep cultural familiarity with India and long‑standing relationships with the communities at the heart of the film.

As a producer and co-founder of the renowned Hamburg-based commercial production company 539090 filmproductions, Stefanie Sebelin looks back on two decades as a managing partner. A few years ago, she relocated to North Frisia to step away from the advertising business and focus on new creative concepts and entrepreneurial ventures. Her long-standing, deeply rooted commitment to women´s rights and empowerment - including her years of work with ZONTA, a global network of executive women working to advance the legal, political, economic, and health status of women and girls - makes Aazadi a true passion project for her. Having already raised the film´s first round of funding via a successful crowdfunding campaign, she is now actively developing the project together with Kriti and Rees.
